SHAH ALAM, April 13 — A Chinese national has gone missing after falling overboard into the sea from a dredger about seven nautical miles from Pintu Gedung, Port Klang near here on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old crew member was conducting maintenance work when a small explosion occurred, the impact of which caused him to fall overboard about 8.30am.

District Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director, Maritime Captain Abu Zaki Mohammad said the victim was believed to have sustained severe head injuries as a result of the explosion.

“We were alerted on the incident by the Chinese Embassy more than six hours later before mobilising two assets to the scene of the mishap.

“The ship, on its way to Bangladesh from Pasir Gudang, Johor, berthed at 1.3 nautical mile from Tanjung Rhu near here,” he said in a statement here today.

According to Abu Zaki, the father of the victim who is the captain of the ship and the mother, who is the cook, had heart attacks when they learned about what happened to their son.

They were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang near here. — Bernama
