KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 — Sarawak State Secretary Tan Sri Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani has been directed to open a special office to promote its agriculture and tourism activities in Singapore by January 2019.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg said the Singapore office would be a strategic boost to Sarawak’s presence in the heart of Asean, The Borneo Post reported on its website today.

“Civil officers from Sarawak will be manning the office, so anyone [from Sarawak] who wants to communicate with Singapore can do so,” he was quoted saying at his Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) 14th Convention appreciation dinner in Kuching on Tuesday night.

Abang Johari said the decision to set up the office was made following a recent fruitful working visit to Singapore.

It was reported that during the visit, the two governments had discussed areas they could collaborate on, focusing mainly on agriculture.

“So we want to take advantage of the opportunity since we have partnered with Singapore to set up a mobile digital payment platform, which will ease our trade and business activities,” Abang Johari was quoted saying further.
