SINGAPORE, Feb 6 — Malaysia’s strategic position augurs well for international defence industry players in their quest to penetrate the Asean market, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said.
“The defence and transport industry in Malaysia needs to rise and take this opportunity.
“Our relationship with the world’s superpowers is not something that can be politicised, but in reality its gives advantage to our country, our economy, our industry.
“This cannot be denied,” he told the Malaysian media on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow 2018 here today.
Hishammuddin arrived here Monday to attend the Asean Defence Ministers’ Retreat in conjunction with the six-day Singapore Airshow 2018 which ends on Feb 11.
Singapore currently holds the Asean chairmanship.
Commenting on the relationship between Malaysia and Singapore, especially between the two prime ministers, Hishammuddin described it as “fairly close.”
“If two neighbourrs have no understanding and sincerity... the relationship can no longer be strengthened. Small matters can become big ones.
“I do not see that happening between Singapore’s and our prime ministers,” he said.
Hishammuddin earlier today visited the Malaysia Pavilion at the Singapore Airshow which was held at Changi Exhibition Centre.
The pavilion hosted by the National Aerospace Industry Coordinating Office (NAICO) showcases Malaysia’s capability and strength as part of the global aerospace supply chain.
It highlights the inter-agency collaboration among NAICO, SME Corporation Malaysia, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, Malaysian Investment Development Authority, and Invest Selangor.
Malaysia continues to strengthen its position at the global aerospace arena with the participation of over 50 delegates at the airshow.
Malaysia’s presence at the Asia’s largest aerospace and defence event is important in highlighting and promoting its capabilities and world-class infrastructure. — Bernama
