IPOH, Feb 1 — A senior officer with the Perak Education Department has lodged a police report after receiving an apparent death threat via a letter demanding the transfer of a school principal.

A source said the officer had lodged the report on Wednesday (Jan 31) at the district police here at 10pm.

“The officer had received the letter at his office at 9am on Jan 25. In the letter, the writer had wanted the complainant to transfer the principal of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dr. Burhanuddin Taiping before Chinese New Year.

“Failing which, he would be sent to hell,” said the source.

“Seeing it as a threat, the complainant decided to lodge a report,” added the source.

Police, said the source, have since seized the letter.

Initial investigations showed no names were attached in the letter nor was there an address of the sender.

“The letter was sent via normal post but the envelope had been discarded by the complainant’s personal assistant,” said the source.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

When contacted, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Ali Tamby confirmed a report had been lodged.

“Investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
