KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — The family of S. Sathiswaran, 15, the boy who died after he was hit by a chair hurled from a high-rise flat here last week, is aggrieved that the student’s wish to celebrate Thaipusam this year is not to be.

His mother M.S. Kasthuribai, 45, said her youngest child had been eagerly awaiting the festival to be celebrated at Batu Caves, near here, next week.

“I do not know what his wish was, because Sathiswaran had told me to buy milk for the prayers. He was the one who would be the happiest at every festival we celebrated.

“We will not be celebrating Thaipusam this year and of course, every celebration will never be the same again without him,” she told Bernama when met at her residence, here, today.       On Jan 15, Sathiswaran died on the spot following a severe head injury in the incident which occurred around 8.10pm, at Block 102 of Seri Pantai People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Pantai Dalam, here.

Kasthuribai, who works as a cook in a restaurant, said she missed Sathiswaran, affectionately called ‘baby’, very much and had dreamt of her son crying.

“He was a good son, he would always prepare my food and clothes before I went to work. He would do all the housework, like washing and folding the clothes… Sathiswaran was dearly loved by all our family members,” she said.

When asked about Kuala Lumpur City Hall installing safety nets at the flats, she said it should be done so that similar incidents would not recur.

“I hope the incident that happened to my son does not happen to the children of other flat occupants and I appeal to the police to expedite the investigation so that we can know the individual who committed the irresponsible act,” she said.

When contacted, Kuala Lumpur CID chief, SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said so far, 43 witnesses had been called to assist in the investigation but no arrests had been made. — Bernama
