PETALING JAYA, Jan 4 — A woman who was wanted for allegedly cheating a group of 23 people from the local entertainment industry for a trip to South Korea has surrendered to the police today.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din said the 36-year-old suspect who was accompanied by her husband, presented herself district Commercial Crime Investigations Department around 3pm.
Mohd Zani said the suspect has been taken into custody and would be remanded at the Petaling Jaya magistrate’s court tomorrow.
Yesterday, a 28-year-old drama producer and 60-year-old cultural officer filed two separate complaints claiming to have been cheated of RM70,890 during their trip to Seoul last Christmas eve.
They claimed to have met the Malaysian woman suspect in Mutiara Damansara to discuss and organise group travel packages.
The victims were told to deposit the money online to a personal bank account, purported to be for payment for their flight tickets but were stalled each time they asked for their trip itinerary.
They ended up without a roof shortly after their arrival to Seoul and realised they were duped.
