KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — The Federal Islamic Religious Department (Jakim) today unveiled a halal consumer application on Android devices called SmartHalal.
The application is designed to assist consumers in checking the halal status of food and beverage products, food premises, slaughterhouses, consumables, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products and halal-certified logistic services by the Malaysian Halal Certification.
The app can be downloaded on Google Playstore and users can also link the app to their Facebook or Google accounts.
On the loading page, users will find a notification at the bottom of the screen stating the nearest halal certified business premises with a 5km radius, in a side scrolling bar.
Selecting one of the premises will take the user to a map, detailing the route and distance to the selected business premise.
Users can also refine their search and localise it through state and nine categories. The categories are: company, premises, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, cosmetics, logistics, food and beverage, abattoir, hotel and resorts.
The app also has a SmartHalal QR Scanner to assist them in determining if a product is halal or otherwise and an “Announcement” section, filled with news on halal certified products and businesses as well as anything that Jakim finds newsworthy.
So far the application has received 11 comments on its Google Playstore page with six users giving it a five-star rating.
