KUALA LUMPUR, March 8— The Dewan Rakyat today observed a moment of silence remembering the victims of the MH370 tragedy three years ago and their family members.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said called on members of the Parliament’s Lower House to rise and dedicate silent prayers for those affected by the tragedy.

“I call upon all members to stand up. For the Muslims please recite the Al-Fatihah while the non-Muslims please observe a moment of silence,” he said, referring to the Quranic verse.

The Malaysia Airlines plane went missing with all its 239 people on board while travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014.

With the governments of Malaysia, Australia and China having suspended their operations, the families of those on board are seeking to fund their private initiative to find the missing plane and have spoken with some global aviation and oceanography experts as well as investigator Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai previously said that Putrajaya does not object to the private campaign and will try to provide any help it can.
