PUTRAJAYA, Oct 9 — Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has ruled out claims that he will be joining PAS after being spotted at several of the Islamist party’s events in the past few months.

The former Selangor mentri besar maintained that he has always had a friendly relationship with PAS and denied any claims that he would be joining the party, or even forming his own party soon.

“Both of it is not true. I have always have [sic] a close relationship with the friends here in PAS.

“This I have stated over and over again because when I got into politics, I was supported by PAS like the by-elections in Ijok in 2007,” Khalid, who used to be with PKR, told reporters after attending a PAS event today.

The independent Bandar Tun Razak MP added that he has no intention of continuing his political career after the next general elections.

Khalid also advised PAS to choose allies who believe in their struggle to avoid any problems like what they experienced with DAP previously in the informal opposition pact, Pakatan Rakyat.

“Even though we can live in a multiracial and multi-ethnic society, the concept of putting forth Islamic Shariah has been put as importance [sic] by PAS.

“The choosing of allies have [sic] to be based on that concept. Those who think that this cannot be continued, PAS doesn’t need friends like that,” he stressed.

PAS formally cut off ties with DAP following a leadership disagreement last year over its desire to enforce strict Shariah laws in Kelantan, leading to the breakup of the Pakatan Rakyat alliance.

However, the Islamist party continues to maintain friendly ties with PKR, which is currently in a new partnership called Pakatan Harapan, with the DAP and PAS splinter, Parti Amanah Negara.
