KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — A 36-year-old medical doctor attached to a dental clinic in Bangsar was charged today at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with causing the death of Syed Alman Zain Syed Ali, the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
According to a Malaysiakini report, specialist obstetric and gynaecologist Dr Ting Teck Ching claimed trial to a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code.
If convicted, he will face a maximum jail term of 10 years.
He is alleged to have caused the death of Syed Alman at the Imperial Dental Clinic in Jalan Telawi, Bangsar between 6.05pm and 9pm on June 1 this year.
Dr Ting was represented by senior lawyer K. Kumaraendran, while DPP Mohd Abazafree Mohd Abbas acted for the prosecution team.
Sessions judge Zainal L. Saleh set bail at RM20,000 with one surety and fixed October 17 for mention.
The report added that Imperial Dental Clinic is currently facing a charge at another Sessions Court.
Syed Alman Zain was married to Zahid’s eldest daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah Zahid.
