KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 — Former minister Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar has been appointed as chairman of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), the Prime Minister's Office announced today.
The PMO said the appointment will take effect on Monday, August 1.
Abdul Wahid will take over from Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid as chairman of the state investment arm.
In the announcement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing PNB chief.
“Under his leadership, PNB made various achievements in executing the government mandate to improve the economic status of the Bumiputera specifically, and in contributing to the growth and development of the nation,” Najib said.
Abdul Wahid had been a minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of economic affairs until his tenure as senator expired last month.
He had been chief executive of Malayan Banking Bhd prior to his appointment to the Cabinet in 2013.
Abdul Wahid also worked briefly as an Uber driver after he left the administration.
