KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — The mass resignation of 300 members following the suspension of their Semporna division chief will not rock Umno, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said today.
The Sabah Umno deputy chairman added that this was because the people of Sabah value the capabilities of the whole over the role of individuals.
“In Sabah ultimately it is about organisations more than individuals, so I do not see a problem coming out of this,” Salleh told reporters after launching YTL Corporation's YES 4G LTE network here.
Semporna MP and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal was suspended from the Malay nationalist party last week and 300 members from the Sabah division, led by Sulabayan assemblyman Datuk Dr Jaujan Sambakong, quite en masse.
“I just advise the people to be patient in this matter. The party is more important than individuals,” Salleh said.
The former Sabah chief minister also said that the Umno leadership will properly explain its recent decisions to excise party dissidents.
“From time to time we will provide explanations on any decisions we make,” he said.
Apart from Shafie, the Umno supreme council announced the expulsion of Pagoh MP Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir last Friday.
