KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Lim Kit Siang continued today to demand that Umno minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob provide proof he could really fill a book with the racist speeches the DAP veteran has allegedly delivered throughout his political career.
Lim also vowed to continue pursuing the matter until Ismail responds, either with examples of the speeches or with an apology.
“Let me tell Ismail that silence is no option for him. Either he cite examples to substantiate his allegation that I had been anti-Malay and anti-Islam in my 50 years in politics, or he should without any delay publicly apologise for making baseless allegations against me in this holy month of Ramadan,” the Gelang Patah MP said in a statement.
“He (Ismail) must apologise for his nefarious lies about me or I will pursue the matter and not let matter rest,” he promised.
Ismail reportedly claimed several days ago while on the stump in Kuala Kangsar that he could compile Lim’s allegedly anti-Islam and anti-Malay speeches into a book.
According to a Malaysiakini report, the Bera MP also suggested that many others would share his view.
Lim, in his response today, issued several tweets demanding examples from the federal minister but said he has yet to receive a reply.
He told Ismail to provide at least five examples by tomorrow, also claiming that unlike the Umno minister, he would easily be able to cite a list of racist speeches made either by Ismail himself or other Umno leaders.
One example, Lim said, is Ismail’s call on the Malays last year to boycott Chinese businesses.
In February last year, Ismail reportedly urged a boycott of Chinese businesses to lower the price of goods. The remarks were made via a Facebook post.
