KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 — Sex blogger Alvin Tan posted controversial picture and caption on Facebook as he thought it was hilarious and wanted to gain public reaction, his former girlfriend Vivian Lee May Ling told a Session Court here today.

The 27-year-old customer relations officer was giving her testimony in her defence trial for a charge of uploading content that could possibly stir hostility among those with different beliefs between July 11 and 12, 2013.

The Facebook post of a picture of Lee and Tan with a caption “Selamat Berbuka Puasa (with Bak Kut Teh...fragrant, delicious and appetising)”, also contained the halal logo.

Lee said she and Tan got into a big fight following the Facebook posting, according to a report by The Star Online.

“I tried to grab the laptop but he pushed me away and I could not get hold of the device,” Lee was quoted saying when questioned by her counsel Chong Joo Tian.

To another question on whether Tan had asked her permission before uploading the posting in their joint Facebook account, Lee replied, “No, he did not. He showed me after he uploaded the posting”.

Lee testified to the court that the controversial posting was then removed in the late afternoon or evening on July 12 after they received negative and angry comments from the public.

The Star Online reported that she also said that an apology in the form of a video was uploaded on YouTube the same day.

Tan, who full name is Tan Jye Yee, is believed to have fled to the United States to avoid attending the trial proceedings.

The hearing before judge Abdul Rashid Daud continues tomorrow with submissions.
