KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 ― Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh declined comment today on the damning report by the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) that held the police responsible for N. Dharmendran’s death in custody, citing the ongoing murder trial over the detainee’s death.
“It's not proper for me to say anything; the case is still pending,” Amar, who was appointed KL police chief in March 2016, told Malay Mail Online.
The EAIC, a body that oversees the police and other enforcement agencies, published its report today on the violent death of Dharmendran while he was detained at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters in May 2013.
The report concluded that Dharmendran was beaten and tortured to death and had his ears stapled while being interrogated by police officers. He had been detained over a shooting in Bandar Tun Razak.
The EAIC also recommended charges against six police officers for allegedly falsifying and tampering with evidence, three of whom are among the four charged with the murder of Dharmendran.
When contacted, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told Malay Mail Online to pose questions at a press conference.
