LANGKAWI, Jan 26 — The implementation of the Langkawi District Local Plan 2030 (RTD Langkawi 2030) will transform Langkawi into a more modern tourism centre without jeopardising its traditional elements.
The draft of the RTD Langkawi 2030 which has been displayed to the public until February 5 to get feedback outlines the development concept of greenness and sustainability, said the president of the Langkawi Tourism City Municipal Council (MPLBP), Abdul Bari Abdullah today.
“The RTD Langkawi 2030 is proof of the state and federal government’s commitment through the MPLBP to meet the aspirations of the people of Langkawi for the long term,” he said during the publicity programme for the RTD Langkawi 2030 draft here. The text of his speech was read out by MPLBP secretary, Mohd Subhi Abdullah.
In the draft, Kuah town will be retained as the district administrative centre and developed further through various coastal road, waterfront and property developments.
A new landmark, the Menara Maha, is being built in the town which will also be part of the overall development of Kuah, complete with green features.
Other than Kuah, the Pantai Cenang area on the west coast of the island has also been given attention under the RTD Langkawi 2030 Draft with the development of beachfront properties, infrastructure and highrise buildings.
Social and economic activities in the north of the island are also expected to be increased through commercial and entertainment development plans which will benefit the locals.
The draft also gave emphasis to 27 transformation projects including the Langkawi Eco Valley, the Tourism Tram Service, the Wildlife and Marine Life Corridor, international schools and universities, electric car service and solar farms.
The MPLBP had displayed the draft of the plan since Jan 5 at the Langkawi International Airport, the Kuah ferry jetty complex, the MPLBP office, the UTC office in Alor Setar to allow the public to study it and provide feedback.
