GEORGE TOWN, Nov 5 — Penang state executive councillor Ng Wei Aik is expected to be charged with sedition at the Sessions Court here tomorrow, over an allegedly inflammatory article on jailed former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Tanjung MP said he was served a warrant to appear in court tomorrow at around midnight last night at Auto City in Juru here.
“I believe they are charging me over an article I wrote in Kwong Wah Yit Poh which they claimed is seditious,” Ng told Malay Mail Online when contacted.
He said the article, published on February 11, was merely his commentary on fellow Penangite, Anwar’s jailing and his call to the people to show their unhappiness in the next general election.
MCA members have lodged police reports against Ng alleging his article was seditious and accused him of calling the people to take to the streets for a Reformasi movement.
Ng, who insisted that he only mentioned the Reformasi movement in the article, was interrogated by the police in early March.
At that time, he was investigated under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for making preparations and conspiring to do an act with seditious tendency.
