KOTA KINABALU, Oct 28 ― Sabah police today said there is no truth to a report claiming that a plane wreckage with human remains and a Malaysian flag was found on the southern Filipino island of Tawi Tawi.
State police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the report was not true, but declined to elaborate on whether action would be taken against the person who had lodged the report.
“Tipu(lies),” Jalaluddin said after a meeting with Kalimantan police here today.
Earlier this month, a 46-year-old audio-visual technician filed a police report in the east coast town of Sandakan claiming that a visiting relative from Sugbay Island in the Tawi Tawi province of Southern Philippines had stumbled upon aircraft wreckage there in early September while hunting for birds.
The technician, Jamil Omar, claimed that his relative and a few others saw the wreckage of the plane in the jungle, along with human skeletal remains in the pilot’s chair with the seat belt fastened.
According to him, they also took a flag they found in the wreckage, which he believed was that of the Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane that went missing en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur.
Philippine media then reported that armed forces of the republic had sent a military team to the island to investigate but found no evidence of any plane remains.
The fate of the MH370, which went missing in March last year with 239 people on board is still unknown although a wing part from the jet was found washed up on a beach in Reunion island in July.
