KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today said there was no abuse of power in the use of Penal Code provisions from sections 124B to 124N.
Besides, their advocacy and rights are also guaranteed in accordance with the sections, said Ahmad Zahid, who is also Minister of Home Affairs, in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat today.
According to him, the clear definition given in the amendments to the Penal Code allowed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to perform their duties under the law with more precision.
“In any manner whatsoever, there is no abuse of power and cases involved will continue to be brought to court for trial,” he said.
He was responding to questions by Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) who requested the full list of names of people who were being investigated, those charged under Sections 124B to 124N of the Penal Code as well as action taken to prevent abuse of power.
Ahmad Zahid said that so far, two people have been accused out of seven persons in 10 cases under Sections 124B to 124N.
They were being investigated for offences relating to undermining parliamentary democracy, sabotage and espionage.
“However, in this instance I do not intend to disclose further information as some of these cases are still under investigation by the police or currently in trial proceedings,” he said. — Bernama
