KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Despite ongoing speculation surrounding the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) today promised that it would continue to feed information to all relevant parties.

“We will continue to keep the next-of-kin and public updated on any latest developments on MH370.

“We would also like to urge everyone to refrain from undue speculation which will only cause stress to the families and loved ones who are anxiously awaiting news on this matter,” the DCA said in a statement today.

On Saturday, a man identified as Jamil Omar lodged a report at the Sandakan police station claiming his aunt had found wreckage from the plane in a forest at Pulau Sugbay, Tawi-Tawi in the Philippines early last month.

The report also claimed the woman found human skeletal remains and a 178cm by 89cm wide Malaysian flag in the wreckage.

Commenting further on the speculation, the DCA said the department has since worked very closely with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and authorities in Philippines with both recently dismissing the claim citing no wreckage has been found on the said island.

“We are very appreciative of the support given by the authorities in the Philippines. Our gratitude also to all the nations who are assisting us during our time of need,” said DCA.

MH370 vanished from the radar on March 8, last year as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crewmembers on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft has yet to be found, even after an exhaustive search in the southern Indian Ocean where it is believed to have gone down after veering off course. — Bernama
