KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 ― Former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam today disavowed the “red shirt” dress code for those intending to join the September 16 rally organised by his group.
Mohd Ali also clarified today that the rally is officially named Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu and is open to all Malaysians, instead of the Himpunan Maruah Melayu (Malay Dignity Rally) name that has been associated with the rally that was seen as being for Malay groups only.
Mohd Ali also said that Coalition of Malay NGOs chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos does not speak for his group, Malay martial arts group Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan Malaysia (Pesaka).
“He cannot speak on behalf of Pesaka. He was informing that Pesaka is the organiser, he supports (us), that is OK, Pesaka invites all.
“So the selling of T-shirts has nothing to do with us,” Mohd Ali, the president of Pesaka, told reporters here in his first public appearance as the rally organiser.
Jamal, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief who claims to head the so-called Coalition of
Malay NGOs, has been outspoken on the rally.
Pesaka's name only surfaced a few days ago, while Jamal and his group had been selling red T-shirts that carry slogans in Bahasa Malaysia such as, “Malay Dignity Uprising, Padang Merbok, Bukit Bintang, Petaling Street, My Homeland”.
