PUTRAJAYA, Aug 18 — Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi confirmed today that none of the 20 Barisan Nasional lawmakers named by several blogs had signed any statutory declaration (SD) to pave the way for an overthrow of the Najib administration.
The deputy prime minister had over the weekend claimed an Umno leader was conspiring with the opposition to topple the Najib administration by gathering signatures for a statutory declaration to express majority support for a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
“I want to confirm that no one from the 20 BN MPs have signed the SD,” he told reporters at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Zahid, who is also an Umno vice-president, had refused to name the alleged party traitor.
He pointed out that several police reports were made regarding the man who is plotting to overthrow the Najib administration, as mentioned by the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday, and the police have opened investigation papers to begin investigations.
“I want to state that I have given all information to the police to investigate and for the AG to draft the charge sheet,” he said, adding that he cannot reveal further information as it will affect investigations.
The 20 BN lawmakers named by several blogs under the title “the usual suspects” behind the plot, include six Sabah MPs: Umno’s Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Datuk Rahim Bakri, Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin, Datuk Raimie Unggi, Upko’s Datuk Marcus Mojigoh and Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin.
Rahim, Bung, Mojigoh and Ewon have since publicly denied their involvement with the plot.
