KUCHING, July 21 — Former Bengoh state assemblyman Datuk William Tanyuh anak Nub died last night at the Sarawak General Hospital here. He was 69.
Tanyuh leaves behind wife Datin Jennifer Alice Chee Moinie and four children.
Jennifer said her husband was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and died at 7.50 pm yesterday of Waldenstrom’s disease, a type of blood cancer.
She said the funeral service would be held on Thursday at 10.30 am at the St Thomas Cathedral here and the burial on the same day.
Tanyuh, who was from the Sarawak United People’s Party, won a by-election in 1982 but did not contest in the 1983 snap elections.
He contested in the 1991 state elections and beat Datuk Wilfred Nissom of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak. He retained the seat in the 1996 elections, defeating Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, and independent candidate.
SUPP president Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said Tanyuh had served the party well as a member of the Central Working Committee (CWC) for many years in numerous capacities and that his last appointment was as chairman of the SUPP disciplinary committee.
“The party has lost a dear, loyal and longstanding leader. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said. — Bernama
