KUALA TERENGGANU, July 14 ― A businesswoman lost about RM70,000 when her mother's jewellery shop in Austin Square, Gong Badak, was robbed by a man, here, yesterday.

State CID chief  ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said in the 1pm incident, the 31-year-old woman was serving two customers at the shop before she was approached by a man armed with a hammer.

He said the man with his face and head covered stormed into the shop and swung the hammer smashing the glass of the display counters in the shop.

“He managed to take half a tray of jewellery and went straight to a Myvi car parked in front of the shop with the engine still running and fled.

“The incident happened so fast that the suspect only took about 10 to 15 seconds to grab the jewellery estimated to be worth RM70,000,” he said at a press conference here today.

Initial investigations found that the shop only opened a few months ago and was not equipped with safety features. Anyone who comes across a man driving a Myvi car without registration number is urged to inform the police immediately. ― Bernama
