KUALA SELANGOR, June 6 — PAS’s Datuk Mahfuz Omar admitted today that PAS lawmakers will suffer from its decision to sever ties with DAP, including possibly losing their posts as state executive councillors.

Despite that, the PAS information chief insisted that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) can still rule in Selangor and Penang even without PAS, especially in Penang where DAP still has a simple majority.

“Without us, they can still rule. Even without PKR in Penang, they (DAP) have simple majority,” Mahfuz said in the party’s 61st muktamar, or annual congress here.

“The effect is we will lose our posts. But we have to stay steadfast with the decision, steadfast with our struggle,” the Pokok Sena MP added, after announcing that the motion to end ties with DAP was approved without debate.

Mahfuz said the decision was not his alone, but came after consulting party spiritual adviser Datuk Dr Haron Din and president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

“We have to trust Allah. Allah will return the power [to us] even without anyone, even when we are alone, God willing,” Mahfuz said, after several delegates chided him for his decision to omit debates.

“Or are you not confident with Allah?” he asked, before leaving the stage.

PAS today confirmed its decision to sever ties with DAP while still remaining in PR with PKR, after the motion proposed by its Ulama wing and Tumpat division was approved without debate.
