KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — Sabah has several active fault lines that will cause occasional earthquakes, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said today, according to news portal The Star Online.

The earthquake that struck Ranau in Sabah this morning measure 6.0 on the Richter scale, which is considered a moderate earthquake, said MetMalaysia’s Earthquake and Tsunami Centre director Dr Wan Azli Wan Hassan, while earthquakes under 5 on the Richter scale is considered weak.

He added that there were some minor aftershocks, and MetMalaysia was monitoring the situation in Sabah.
