KUANTAN, June 2 — A rendezvous with a woman near a hotel in Indera Mahkota here early today, almost cost a contractor his life when a lone gunman ambushed and shot him in the neck.

Despite bleeding profusely, Mohd Isa Ismail, 43, managed to drive five kilometres to the Kuantan police headquarters to seek help.

Upon arrival, the victim, who was in a state of semi-consciousness was helped by policemen who sent him to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital where he was warded in a stable condition.

Kuantan police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said Mohd Isa sustained a gunshot wound in the back of the neck.

He said the gunman had fired two shots at the victim in a parking lot near the hotel, one of which struck him while the other went wide.

Abdul Aziz said in the 1.21am incident, Mohd Isa, from Kemaman, Terengganu, was driving a new Proton Persona into the parking lot to meet a woman when a man suddenly appeared behind him.

At that juncture, the man fired two shots in the victim’s direction, one of which struck the back of the neck, he said, adding that a police team found bullet holes in the rear window of the vehicle.

“The contractor is expected to undergo surgery to remove the bullet from the neck,” he said. — Bernama
