KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) election manifesto for Teluk Intan have yet to be fulfilled a year on since the by-election last year, DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud said today.
Dyana Sofya, who narrowly lost to Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong in the by-election on May 31 last year, said there is still no sign of a wifi zone, the construction of a university, or international Unesco heritage listing for Teluk Intan’s famous Leaning Tower after Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared the building last February as a national heritage site.
Mah’s election pledge of building a modern agricultural hub in Teluk Intan has been dismissed by the Perak state government who said in December 2014 that there are no proposals to do so, while his promise of a flood mitigation project for the Perak federal constituency has only received an approved RM30 million so far out of a projected cost of RM360 million, according to Dyana Sofya.
“I hope that the manifesto isn’t just mere promises and I urge that Teluk Intan MP Datuk Mah Siew Keong, who is also a senior BN minister, to make it reality,” Dyana Sofya said in a statement.
The political secretary to DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang questioned if the government has started providing broadband infrastructure to fulfill Mah’s pledge of creating a wifi zone in the semi-urban Teluk Intan.
She also noted that the plot of land identified to build a university in Teluk Intan has yet to be gazetted and it is still under the name of a public listed company, while the detailed plan to build the tertiary institution has yet to be seen.
Mah won the Teluk Intan seat in the by-election last year with a razor-thin margin of 238 votes after previously losing it to DAP in the 13th general election.
