KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — A couple has been detained in connection with the murder of a boy whose body was found buried under a new layer of cement in the kitchen floor of a terrace house in Taman Usaha Jaya, Kepong.

Gombak police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said the 33-year-old male detainee, suspected to be the father of the victim, was arrested at a restaurant in Keningau, Sabah, at 6.30pm yesterday.

Police later also arrested a woman, aged 33, suspected of being the boy’s mother, in Penampang, Sabah, at about 1am today.

“Both suspects are expected to be taken from Sabah to the Gombak Police District Headquarters tomorrow to have their statements recorded.

“Police believe the murdered boy, aged between eight and 10 years, is their child, but this can only be confirmed after DNA tests have been carried out,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said the cause of the boy’s death had also yet to be determined.

“The body, believed to have been buried for eight weeks, had decomposed beyond recognition and there was no clear sign that the victim was abused or injured,” he added.

On Friday, a contractor about to begin renovation works at the house, vacated by the tenants, found the child’s body buried in cement after getting a foul stench coming from a hole in the kitchen floor. — Bernama
