PUTRAJAYA, May 16 — The Election Commission (EC) will study an order made by the Kuching High Court for it to carry out re-delineation exercise in Sarawak.

EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said the commission had not been officially notified on the matter and only knew about it through media reports.

“We will look at the details of the decision on Monday because we have only heard about it through the media.

“If there is anything, we will issue a statement on Monday after we get the information,” he told Bernama here today.

Yesterday, Kuching High Court judge Yew Jen Kie ordered the EC to republish the notice of its re-delineation exercise in full compliance with the provisions in the 13th Schedule of the Federal Constitution.

She made the ruling after finding there was a serious and considerable lack of details in the EC’s notice and draft constituency plan, which were displayed for public feedback from Jan 5 to Feb 4 at several locations in Sarawak.

The ruling means the EC will have to carry out a re-delineation exercise in Sarawak. — Bernama
