KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — The High Court here today granted four MIC leaders stay against the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) order for the party to hold fresh polls until the hearing of all applications in the case have been disposed of.
Judge Datuk Asmabi Mohamad made the ruling here in chambers and fixed May 27 for the hearing on all applications in the judicial review.
“The judge allowed stay on RoS direction until hearing of substantive applications which fixed on May 27...merits of whole application will be heard,” senior federal counsel Amarjeet Singh said.
“(RoS) directions are directed inoperative until (judicial review) disposal.”
Four MIC leaders applied for the judicial review in February when RoS ordered the party to hold fresh polls in light of the “irregularities” found in their 2013 results.
They were granted leave on March 20.
The leaders included the party’s president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan and Datuk S. Balakrishnan and former secretary-general A. Prakash Rao.
On April 2, MIC vice-president Datuk M. Saravanan and central working committee member S. Ananthan applied to intervene in the judicial review as respondents.
The court later decided only Saravanan was allowed to intervene.
