PERMATANG PAUH, May 7 — PKR’s Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail pleaded with voters in the Permatang Pauh by-election today to show her support, amid fears that PKR could lose the seat due to a possible lower voter turnout.
The PKR president said she hoped that the huge numbers at the party’s two ceramahs last night at Taman Ciku and Tapak Expo Seberang Jaya before polling day today would translate to votes.
“I only hope voters here will support me and not let me down,” Dr Wan Azizah said when she arrived at the SK Seri Penanti polling centre here to cast her vote.
Last night at the PR final ceramahs, thousands turned up at both events held simultaneously at two different locations.
“So far, the process seems smooth and it looks that quite many people have come out to vote so it is a good sign,” she said when asked about the polling process she observed at SK Seri Penanti.
The PKR president expressed sadness when asked how she felt about her husband and incumbent MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not voting along with her today.
“Of course I’m sad that he’s not here because this by-election should not even be held at all,” she said.
There is a total of 71,252 ordinary voters in Permatang Pauh, with voting open at 25 polling centres between 8am and 5pm today.
