GEORGE TOWN, April 8 — A couple has been detained by the police today, in connection with an incident where a car repossessor was shot and injured near a market in Jalan Patani, Sungai Pinang here early Sunday.

Northeast district police chief, ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the suspects who operated an entertainment centre in George Town were picked up in Jalan Ranggon here at about 12.30am.

He said following the arrest of the suspects, in their 40s, the police seized a car and a plastic packet containing transparent cubes suspected to be drugs.

He was speaking to reporters after launching a visionary youth programme in conjunction with the Blue Ocean Strategy at the Sekolah Menengan Kebangsaan Jelutong here today.

In the incident at about 5am, the victim, who was shot by a man in a car was treated at the Penang Hospital. His condition was reported to be stable.

Meanwhile in a separate incident, Mior Faridalatrash said a factory technician sustained injuries in the head and knees when she was dragged by one of two would-be snatch thieves on a motorcycle in Jelutong here yesterday.

In the 6am incident, he said the 50-year-old woman was waiting for the factory van to ferry her to work in Bayan Lepas when an attempt was made to snatch her handbag.

“In the incident, the pillion rider tried to grab the handbag but the woman held on to it.

“At that juncture, the woman fell and was dragged several metres before the duo escaped on the machine empty-handed,” he said.
