KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — A former army Lance Corporal was today sentenced to 17 years in prison and 10 lashes by the Sessions Court here after pleading guilty to raping his stepdaughter.
The 36-year-old man committed the offence on the victim aged 12 years and nine months at a military camp, at 5.15am in mid-January this year.
Judge Zulqarnain Hassan ordered him to serve the term from the date of his arrest on March 9.
Earlier in mitigation, the man who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lighter sentence on the grounds that it was his first offence.
However, deputy public prosecutor Tan Sew Ping urged the court to impose an appropriate punishment “as a lesson to the accused”.
“The accused had taken advantage of his stepdaughter when he should rightfully protect her as a father,” submitted Tan. — Bernama
