PETALING JAYA, March 12 — A scrap metal dealer and three others, including a woman, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the abduction and murder of a managing director of a company last month.
Kavin Mukilan Chandrasegaran, 21, is jointly charged with Sunil Singh, 26; A. Malarvili (female), 23, and S. Vivegkanathaa (male), 23, with murdering Balbir Kaur, 68, at the Second Penang Bridge, KM 12 Batu Kawan in Penang, at 3.55am last February 14.
They were alleged to have covered the victim’s mouth, until she suffocated to death, and then threw the body into the sea.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death sentence, if found guilty.
They were also charged with abducting Balbir Kaur and wrongfully confining her for ransom of RM 2 million at a construction site at Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway here at 1.40pm last February 13.
The offence, under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, carries the death sentence or life imprisonment, and shall, if not sentenced to death, also be liable to whipping, if found guilty.
All of them nodded their head after the charge was read, but no plea was recorded.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid set April 14 for mention.
The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Saphirra Selamat, while lawyer S. Prakash represented Kavin Mukilan, Vivegkanathaa and Malarvili. Sunil was unrepresented.
Also present in court was lawyer Ram Karpal Singh, who is holding a watching brief for the family of the deceased. — Bernama
