KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — Two men, who are neighbours, were fined RM1,000 each, in default a month’s jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for fighting.

Magistrate Nur Azura Murah handed down the sentence on Madnapis Karim, 33, a hotel worker, and Hassan Md Isa, 52, who is unemployed, after they pleaded guilty to their respective charges.

Madnapis pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt by using dangerous weapon on Hassan on the third floor of a shophouse at Lorong Haji Taib 5, Dang Wangi here at about 11.40pm last March 6.

Madnapis had hit Hassan on the head with an iron rod.

The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for three years, or fine, or whipping, or any two of the penalties, if found guilty.

Meanwhile, Hassan was charged with voluntarily causing hurt on Madnapis by punching him on the right arm and left leg at the same place, time and date.

The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides a jail term of up to a year or fine not exceeding RM2,000 or both, if found guilty.

In mitigation, Madnapis, who was in tears, said he had to support a wife and four children.

Madnapis and Hassan were unrepresented, while deputy public prosecutor S. Ravindran prosecuted. — Bernama
