KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli accepted today an Umno division chief’s challenge to declare his assets and told federal ministers to do likewise.
The opposition Pandan MP said he will come up with a statutory declaration that will list his assets and debts, his income and work background before he joined politics, as well as his monthly income and expenses as a politician.
“After I make the declaration, I really hope that Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee will no longer give excuses and that he’ll lead an internal Umno campaign instead so that all Umno leaders who are of ministerial status and above will make similar declarations,” Rafizi said in a statement, referring to the Cheras Umno division chief.
“If I, an ordinary Member of Parliament, can make such an open asset declaration, then powerful Cabinet members who have the opportunity to use their position to obtain wealth must declare their assets too,” he added.
Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, said he will distribute copies of his statutory declaration as well as documentary evidence in Parliament next Tuesday.
News portal Malaysiakini reported Syed Ali as saying Tuesday that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers should declare their assets before questioning Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wealth.
He reportedly told DAP publicity chief Tony Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara MP, to set an example by urging PR elected representatives to reveal their assets.
