BAHAU, March 5 — Two friends were run over by a cement tanker at Kilometre 1, Jalan Bahau-Juasseh near the Petronas Petrol Station here, this afternoon.
Abdul Hakeem Abd Manan and Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ghazali, both 25, from Batu Kikir, were heading to Juasseh on a motorcycle when the incident took place at 3.45pm.
Jempol District Police chief Supt Hamzah Alias said the victims were behind a vehicle in the right lane when the vehicle suddenly braked.
“The motorcyclist veered to the left into the path of the tanker, to avoid hitting the vehicle, but fell and both were run over.
“They were dragged for several metres by the tanker and died at the scene of grievous bodily injuries,” he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said the bodies were taken to the Jempol Hospital for a post mortem.
Meanwhile, Bahau Fire and Rescue Station senior fire officer II, A. Gonasela, who headed five firemen in an operation to recover the bodies, said the remains were retrieved in 30 minutes. — Bernama
