JOHOR BARU, March 3 — Larkin Sentral is set to receive a RM10 million facelift.
The transportation hub — which has commercial lots, an intercity bus terminal and taxi services — will be upgraded to provide comfort and convenience for about 30,000 daily commuters. The changes include an air-conditioned waiting lounge for 1,000 people.
Johor Corporation chief executive Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim said work would start at the end of the year and take an estimated 24 months to complete.

“Once completed, it will be just as comfortable and modern like the Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Terminal in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
Larkin Sentral has 700 commercial lots, 120 parking bays for buses and two taxi terminals — one for the city services and the other serving the Johor Baru-Singapore route.
Kamaruzzaman spoke at the opening of a new city taxi terminal by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin yesterday.
Johor Corporation spent close to RM1.1 million for the new terminal, which has 110 parking lots for waiting taxis and a sheltered area for passengers.
Khaled said the state government was streamlining a master transportation plan for the city.
“At the heart of it will be the Mass Rapid Transport system. We have asked for funds from the federal government under the 11th Malaysia Plan. It is time city folk learnt to accept public transport as a way of life,” he said.
“It is the state government’s responsibility to prepare the infrastructure for an effective public transport system. This includes providing good and comfortable public transportation hubs and wider roads.”
