KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 — A total number of 150 road deaths out of 11,867 accidents were recorded on day 10 of Op Selamat since it was launched on February 12.

Bukit Aman Traffic chief, SAC Datuk Mohd Fuad Abd Latiff said Johor recorded the highest number with 27 deaths, followed by Selangor (23) and Perak (22) in Op Selamat, which will end this Thursday (February 26).

Most of the fatal accidents happened on federal roads with 44 cases, state roads (36 cases), highways (28 cases), and also city and town roads with 21 cases.

“The 150 road fatalities also involved motorcycles with 92 deaths, cars (36 deaths) and pedestrians with 11 deaths,” he told Bernama via WhatsApp.

Mohd Fuad said 180,443 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, such as speeding and misuse of parking lots.

A total of 47,604 police personnel were tasked to make daily up at houses and business premises during Chinese New Year holiday.

He said a total of 8,371 reports were received by police from the civilians informing that they were on vacation during the holiday. — Bernama
