PASIR SALAK, Jan 14 — Water companies in states affected by floods incurred RM10 million in losses after numerous equipment at water treatment plants were submerged in flood waters.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said Kelantan lost RM6 million, Pahang (RM4 million) and Perak (RM240,000).

He said, until today, two plants in Kelantan still remained closed, namely the Limau Kasturi plant and the Bertam plant, while only one plant was closed in Kuala Tahan, Jerantut in Pahang.

“The repair of raw water pipes at the Limau Kasturi plant cannot be carried out as yet, while work is in earnest to remove sand and mud from the Bertam plant.

“There are 32 plants in Kelantan, of which 27 were closed during the flood. There are 80 plants in Pahang and 16 were affected by the flood,” he said after visiting the Kampung Gajah Water Treatment plant here today. — Bernama
