KUALA KRAI, Dec 30 — Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today visited the flood-hit Kuala Krai Hospital, raising the spirits of the 180 officers and staff who had laboured tirelessly to attend to the patients in difficult circumstances.

The prime minister flew by helicopter to the hospital at 1.50 pm, accompanied by Kelantan Flood Disaster Relief Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.

He attended a briefing given by hospital director Dr Nik Mohd Faizal Nik Zainal Abidin and then visited several patients who had been admitted there after the floods struck Kelantan.

One of these patients is Muhammad Afiq Ikmal Zaidi, almost two, who was admitted several days ago for diarrhoea after having drunk rain water.

The compound of the hospital had been turned into a relief centre at the onset of the floods but the evacuees have since returned to their homes.

Dr Nik Mohd Faizal said the prime minister’s visit boosted the spirits of the hospital officers and staff to deliver even better service to the people, especially the flood victims.

He said everyone was touched by the presence of Najib who, he added, praised them for their service.

“This gives us the resilience to work even harder. What we are doing is just serving the people in their time of need,” he told reporters after the prime minister’s visit.

Earlier, Najib had a first-hand look at the flood damage in Kampung Manik Urai Baru and Kampung Manik Urai Lama, the two worst-affected villages in Kuala Krai.
