He said credible news was the official information released by the government.
“The social media is just a medium and it does not determine the authenticity and veracity of news,” he told reporters after a visit to the flood relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sayong here.
The prime minister was asked to comment on the circulation over the social media of false news pertaining to the floods now ravaging several states in the country.
Najib said the people must stick to the news sources that provided authentic and truthful information.
He said the irresponsibility of circulating false news could cause anxiety and worry in the people.
“I hope the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission will trace those spreading false information and take action against them,” he said. — Bernama
