KUANTAN, Dec 28 — Many flood evacuees in Kampung Razali here today took the advantage of the fine weather conditions to return to their respective houses to begin the cleaning work.
A villager, Mariam Jusoh, 45, said she decided to return home with her children to do some cleaning work this morning.
“It’s sad to see all the damaged stuff, but we accept this as fate.
Hopefully the rain will stop and the flood situation will return to normal. However, we are prepared to move into the relief centre again if flooding reoccurs,” she told Bernama here today.
For Mohd Aris Abdullah, 45, although his house was inundated by flood waters, he was still grateful that it was not as bad as last year’s flood.
“This area is a flood-prone area, but this time around the area was only submerged by 1.5 metre-deep water compared to last year’s flood which covered the area as high as three metres,” he said.
Rahmah Ngah, 61, said she and her family, who were evacuated to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaaan Panglima Perang Indera Mahkota, had also decided to return home to clean the house today.
“Luckily, I have made some preparations based on our previous experience dealing with floods last year. Although we can bring along our important documents, we still have to leave behind the electrical appliances, such as the television set and fridge,” she said.
A sundry shop owner, Che Zainun Che Mat, 58, also returned home today to check the condition of products left on display at her shop.
“Wet items, such as fish and vegetables have gone bad, while dry items are also badly affected by flood waters. I have to identify those that can still be sold,” she said, hoping that no more flooding would recur in the area for fear of suffering bigger losses. — Bernama
