KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has restored operations of 616 substations in flood affected areas as at 4 am this morning.
TNB senior general manager (operations region 2), TNB Distribution Division, Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid, said in a statement today that restoration operations of the substations were carried out in safe areas where flood waters had begun to recede.
“The biggest challenge is supplying electricity back to Kelantan because the water level is still high and there are very limited access routes,” he said.
Abdul Aziz said Kelantan lost the most energy load of 148MW involving 152,660 users, followed by Pahang (40MW with 20,352 users), Terengganu (12MW with 5,209 users) and Perak (4MW with 2,825 users).
“So far TNB has restored 51 megawatts (MW) of the 205MW power supply affected involving 357 substations in Kelantan, 162 in Pahang, 72 in Terengganu and 25 in Perak,” he said.
Abdul Aziz, who is also TNB’s Flood Management chief coordinator, said his company had installed 53 generator sets with a capacity of 500 kilowatts (kW) up to 1,000kW and 23 types of portable generator sets with a capacity of 4kW to 40kW in certain locations.
“In this regard, TNB employees have also been increased to 1,500 personnel from the 1,000 previously to the flood areas to monitor the installation, restoration of supply as well as to help in the transfer and delivery of aid to victims,” he said.
