KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — The flood situation in Negri Sembilan and Kedah has fully recovered after victims returned to their homes, while in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang, it is still serious.
The flood situation in Kelantan is still bad with more than 80,000 victims still housed at relief centres.
The exact number of victims in the state could not be confirmed yet by the authorities as certain areas could not be reached.
As of this afternoon, some 81,925 flood victims were recorded in the state. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also surveyed the flood situation in the state today.
In Terengganu, the number of victims dropped to 34,709 people (8,596 families) compared with 35,085 people reported this afternoon.
The numner of victims in Pahang declined to 31,774 people tonight compared with 33,973 people this afternoon.
The Pahang Police Contingent Headquarter's flood relief centre spokesperson said that Kuantan still housed the most number of victims, with 10,174 people in 34 relief centres.
According to the spokesperson, eight other districts which were affected were Jerantut with 6,427 people, followed by Temerloh (4,617), Maran (3,455), Pekan (3,324), Lipis (2,647), Bera (855), Raub (262), and Rompin (13).
In Perak, the total number of flood victims placed in relief centres in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah, and Kerian had increased by 57 people from this afternoon to 7,010.
According to a spokesperson from the Perak State National Security Council, all the flood victims were placed in 55 relief centres throughout the state, with 3,479 in Perak Tengah, 2,683 in Kuala Kangsar, 657 in Hulu Perak and 191 in Kerian.
In Selangor, the number of flood victims increased from 85 people earlier this afternoon to 115 people tonight and they were placed in two relief centres, which were Sekolah Kebangsaan Binjai and Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdul Samad.
In Perlis, the number of victims also reduced to 77 from the 100 people reported earlier this afternoon. Johor recorded 425 victims tonight from Kluang, Batu Pahat, Muar, Kota Tinggi, and Segamat a drop of 14 people from this afternoon. — Bernama
