KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 ― The number of flood victims in Pahang and Perak has increased as at 9 pm, with 33,324 flood evacuees were recorded in Pahang and 6,335 in Perak.
In PAHANG, 8,477 families from eight flood-hit districts were recorded to have taken shelter at relief centres tonight from 8,280 families recorded this afternoon.
Spokesman at Pahang police contingent flood operations room said Kuantan still had the most number of flood evacuees with 16,266 people from 4,416 families at 43 relief centres.
“Seven other flood-hit districts are Jerantut with 5,403 victims at 51 relief centres, Temerloh (3,200 victims/41 centres), Maran (3,035 victims/24 centres), Pekan (2,573 victims/28 centres), Lipis (2,425 victims/34 centers), Bera (384 victims/eight centres) and Rompin (38 victims/two centres), he said.
He said only Raub, Bentong and Cameron Highlands had not recorded any flood evacuees.
In PERAK, the number of flood victims at all 51 relief centres statewide had also increased to 6,335 from 1,576 families tonight from 6,119 people from 1,513 families this afternoon.
According to the spokesman of Perak National Security Council, the number of people evacuated from Central Perak areas increased to 3,113 tonight from only 2,914 this afternoon.
The areas were Belanja, Bota Kiri, Lambor Kiri, Lambor Kanan, Parit, Bota Kanan, Kampung Gajah, Pasir Salak and Layang Kiri.
In KUALA KANGSAR, the number of flood victims had also risen to 2,629 people tonight from the previous 2,579 victims recorded in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, in Hulu Perak, especially in Lenggong, the number of victims at relief centres dropped to 593 from the previous 626.
In TERENGGANU, the number of flood victims dropped to 34,109 people tonight from 34,884 people this afternoon.
However, according to the State National Security Council's portal, the flood situation in Kemaman was still critical with more and more people were evacuated.
The number of evacuees in Kemaman rose to 24,474 tonight compared to 21,381 recorded in the afternoon, while Dungun registered 8,197 evacuees.
A total of 95 relief centres were still in operation, namely in Dungun (34), Hulu Terengganu (three), Kemaman (50) and Kuala Terengganu (nine).
In KEDAH, the overall flood situation had improved with only Bandar Baharu having 14 victims still taking shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Kecil Ulu in Mukim Bagan Samak, after three other relief centres in Padang Terap were closed.
The last of the relief centre in Padang Terap was closed at 4.30pm.
In JOHOR, the number of flood victims rose to 896 tonight, involving 214 families.
According to the spokesman of state's National Security Council, two new relief centres were open, bringing the total of relief centres in five flood-hot districts to 12.
The new relief centres were at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kota Dalam Ayer Hitam, which is sheltering 36 victims from eight families, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Suria Perdana Ayer Hitam, sheltering 52 victims from 13 families.
The five flood-hit districts are Kluang, Batu Pahat, Kulaijaya, Segamat and Muar.
In PERLIS, the number of people taking shelter at flood relief centres tonight remained at 209 people from 66 families.
They are currently taking shelter at three relief centres in Beseri and Kangar. ― Bernama
