Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, senior meteorological officer, National Weather Centre, Malaysian Meteorological Department, said today states in the west coast were expected to experience flash floods due to the short periods of rain there.
He said the forecast was based on the movement of the prevailing North-East Monsoon.
He also said that the department was not ruling out another period of heavy rain on Sunday in the east coast states.
Mohd Hisham advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to be prepared to evacuate in the eventuality of heavy rain.
He had forecast previously that the North-East Monsoon could trigger four to five periods of heavy rainfall for three to seven days at a stretch between November and January 2015 in the east coast states as well as between January and March 2015 in the west coasts of Sabah and Sarawak. ― Bernama
