PETALING JAYA, Dec 22 — A British national was killed and his female friend injured when she lost control of her vehicle and slammed into a wall in the SMART Tunnel early yesterday morning.

They were heading from the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway to the city when the accident occurred at about4.50am.

Thomas George, 22, who worked as a stock market adviser, died on the spot from head injuries.

Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation and traffic law officer DSP S. Markandan said George and his friend, a school teacher, aged 25, were returning to the city after meeting a friend in Seremban.

“The teacher lost control of her car, which rammed into the side wall, causing it to skid and overturn,” he said.

Markandan said the teacher escaped with minor injuries.

“We have not recorded her statement as she is still traumatised from the incident,” he said.

“She is being treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“The family of the Briton has been informed.”

In a separate case, a paralysed Indonesian woman was killed in an early morning fire yesterday which destroyed five double-storey terrace houses in Kampung Rantau Panjang, Klang .

Sungai Pinang Fire and Rescue station operation commander Sathia Seelan said the department received a distress call at 6.05am and the first fire engine arrived at the scene seven minutes later.

“Fourteen firemen from three nearby fire stations went to the location and brought the fire under control in 20 minutes,” he said.

A woman in her 50s was killed while another Indonesian woman suffered burns.
