LABUAN, Dec 7 — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry targets having at least one Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) in each Parliamentary constituency, said its minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.
He said so far 125 KR1Ms had been set up and that 35 more were in the pipeline, including for Labuan.
“We hope to speed up the establishment of KR1Ms in each constituency and in Labuan, we are still looking for suitable premises and hope Labuan Corporation will help us on this,” he said at the Consumerism Appreciation and ‘Kedai Harga Patut’ Awards ceremony here today.
He said efforts were also on the cards to increase the number of 1Malaysia People’s Menu (Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia -MR1M) in public and private higher learning institutions (IPTs) and there there were 396 outlets providing the menu (at IPTs).
He added that there were total of 4, 367 outlet throughout the country offering including five in Labuan.
Hasan also said his ministry had drawn up the Consumer Education Enhancing Plan 2014 — 2019 aimed at minimising the impact of the rising prices until 2019.
On another matter, Hasan said the ministry seized RM1.17 million worth of
goods from January to Dec 2 this year and collected RM309, 180 in fines over
flouting of trade and consumerism acts,
He said the number of cases recorded so far this year was at 5, 735 for various offences, under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (3 723), Weights and Measures Act 1972 (1,923), Consumer Protection 1999 (65) and 24 cases under the Trade Description Act 2011.
He added that during the period, 1.82 million premises were checked throughout the country. — Bernama
